Sector
Pubs & bars
Tied and leased houses have less room on supply than a freehouse, so the audit concentrates on the lines the agreement does not control.
Audited in this order
- 01Whether energy is genuinely free to switch under the tie
- 02Cellar cooling and its share of the electricity bill
- 03Card processing across peak trading
- 04Telecoms, including Wi-Fi, music and sports subscriptions
What we look for
What tends to be wrong in pubs & bars.
Specific to this sector, and drawn from how the contracts and meters actually behave rather than from a generic savings claim.
The tie usually covers drink, not power
Many operators assume energy is tied because beer is. We check the agreement rather than assume either way.
Cellar cooling runs continuously
It is the largest single electrical load in most pubs and never switches off.
Card volume is compressed into a few hours
Terminal count and connectivity matter as much as rate. A queue at the bar costs more than 0.2% on the rate.
Priority order
Where the audit spends its time.
We work down this list. Lines further down still get checked, they just rarely move the number.
